Morning Quickie

Quick post, that is;) Finally feeling some better from my bouts of illnesses and able to get going more agressively on job applications. There have been a few interesting positions that have appeared on various job sites these last few weeks and I am hopeful that someone will soon decide that I am the perfect candidate. My mantra is "must not get desperate" because when that happens I often make very stupid decisions. See Summer of 2004 when I was both writing my thesis and working in a job from hell (meat archives, let's say no more).

Aside from scoping jobs, I've been welcoming construction workers to our home who often show up at unexpected hours, usually when I am still in my pajamas. Every day brings a new adventure and questions such as, "who will be in my house today? the carpenter? electrician? random wood delivery guy?" But I'm glad that my parents are finally doing some renovations because it'll be a really nice space when everything is finished.

This past weekend, Meg and I went to see Freedom Writers. I was expecting a mild amount of Dangerous Minds cheese since this movie seemed to be in a similar vein, but was pleasantly surprised. Plus, the music was excellent and I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed the rap/hip hop from the early 1990s. After the movie we spent some time with Elisha and Josh and had a good time catching up on the last few weeks. It felt like forever had passed since New Year's.

Yesterday I registered for the OLA Super Conference which is at the end of this month. I am going to be staying with Carolyn, whom I worked with at Guelph over the summer and who goes to FIS at UofT. I'll be in Toronto from Wednesday through Saturday and I'm planning on attending some really great sessions at the conference; lots about academic libraries, career development, and some fun ones like a talk with the founder of Boing Boing. As Becca and I discussed last evening, this is a highly addictive and wonderful site that you MUST check out if you haven't already. I also had a chance to talk with Tyler yesterday which was excellent, though I fear I did not help him too much with resume/cover letter issues. Oh group, how I miss you!

This weekend I am going to Keswick, Ontario to visit Annie as well as Krista, who lives nearby in Uxbridge. Knowing my lovely Public History friends, they will have planned some entertaining activities for us to take part in. I would not doubt if a museum or some kind of historic site is involved. Mostly I am looking forward to a good drive up to beautiful Lake Simcoe and a chance to hear what's going on with those girls. I went out for supper with Maureen and Heather last week in Milton, so I'm really trying to do the rounds with people before I (fingers crossed and double knotted) head out of the province!

This morning quickie seems to have turned into something a bit more substantial, lol...so I'll leave it at this and wish you all a great week.

Trust me, the coverletter/resume talk has helped lots. I have no idea how to go about doing that kind of thing. That is why I basically stole everything that was in your coverletter (thanks!)
