The Big Win

Well, as some of you may have heard (if you didn't see the screaming fans on television!), the Saskatchewan Roughriders won The Grey Cup last night. Living near downtown and the main drag I ended up having a very entertaining evening watching the traffic and happy fans go by. It was a big old party, and it seemed like the whole city was in some sort of post-coital bliss (sorry, but really, that's what it seemed like!) all day.

My Grey Cup celebration included a trip to the home of Robin (the other new librarian who I've gotten to be friends with) here in Regina. Before the game started she, her brother Drew, and I played a few rounds of Guitar Hero. I'd heard and read so much about the game that it was super exciting to finally get to play it. It took a few tries but not too long to discover I am a Guitar Hero genius. Well, sorta. I did rock Slow Ride, Hit Met With Your Best Shot, as well as Bulls On Parade. Not bad for the first time out.

Watched the first half of the game, and then Robin's parents were kind enough to include me in their supper plans. It was wonderful to sit around a table with a family again, just talking and eating and laughing. That is something that I really miss. I decided to head home after supper, just because I didn't want to get caught up in the crazy traffic that was sure to emerge regardless of whether the the Riders won or lost.

And they won! A slightly pathetic game (this, of course, coming from the girl with a complete lack of football knowledge), but still very fun to be a part of. The province does really seem to be on a roll right now, so who knows what's next?! Maybe Swiss Chalet will finally set up shop and cure my longing for chicken sandwiches and lemon pie. That would pretty much make Saskatchewan complete for me. I guess football will suffice in the meantime!
